Ghost of xNES Past

Surprise! I wrote a Christmas song!
(I tried real hard to make it normal, but that did not go well.)

If you know anyone who needs something fun and upbeat to close out this year on a positive note, please share it with them.

Thanks!

…and hey! Merry Christmas!

Lyrics:

When I was just a kid,
one thing my family did…
We’d wait with bated breath beneath the tree.

’cause when Santa came
we’d open a new game
and play together as a family.

One year, I snuck downstairs,
caught Saint Nick unawares.
I asked him “Santa, won’t you stop and play?”

He said “If you’re awake…
Well, I could use a break.
Let’s play a bit before I hit the sleigh.”

Ain’t gonna lie;
The game flew by.
He took his losses with a grin.

But here’s the thing…
I think Santa let me win.

He left with a wink,
and I’ve had years to think.
I reminisce about our history.

Replay it in my mind.
That win feels undefined.
I face the taste of hollow victory.

That Christmas past…
it kicks my ass.
They say I’m losing my grasp,

but here’s the thing…
I know Santa let me win!

Years pass. Children grow.
But I just gotta know:
Did Santa throw that game to spare my pride?

And yes, I’m obsessed.
I need this off my chest.
My wounded ego just won’t let this slide.

To quell the jealousy,
I hide behind the tree…
Left a controller on the cookie tray.

I said “Let’s not act
I know you’re holding back.
Don’t spare my feelings on this Christmas Day.”

He moved so fast.
And I’m outclassed.
Santa’s skills are unsurpassed.

He took the win.
He did me in.
He’s the best that’s ever been!

(Good game, Santa.)
